Go Skateboarding Day Celebrated At Etnies Skatepark

Skaters traded in the beach to carve the concrete waves at the Etnies Skatepark in Lake Forest.

More than 150 skateboarders, ranging from young amateurs to seasoned pros, attended “Go Skateboarding Day” at the , launching the summer skateboarding season with big air and tricks. 

“It’s all about coming out and having a great time and believing in [yourself] to just go for it,” said Christopher Breen, who has been skateboarding at the park for five years.

Keeping the competitive spirit alive, Etnies held multiple skateboarding contests that won skaters prizes—and bragging rights—for the winners at the event late Tuesday afternoon.

The park, which opened in December 2003, is set for an expansion that will be finished by mid-August.

A grand opening celebration for the expanded area is scheduled for Aug. 20.

“Go Skateboarding Day is a pretty cool event that celebrates skateboarding, but I really think you should skate everyday,” park coordinator Nick Gates said.
