Local Author: WTF Is Key to Business Success

More than 120 people attended a book signing party Wednesday evening for Mike Brenhaug, who recently published his first book of business advice.

Outgoing President Mike Brenhaug exited the office with a bang.

The new author Wednesday evening hosted a dual book launch party and business ribbon-cutting at in Foothill Ranch.

Brenhaug's irreverently titled self-help book, WTF: Transform What Appears Negative Into a Positive to Become Unstoppable," pulls from his longtime experience as a personal business coach, he said.

"I've never written a book before. I wasn't even very good in English," Brenhaug said Wednesday evening with a laugh.

However, following the precepts laid out in his book—which emphasize goal-setting and focus—led him to its completion in six months, he said.

The book's main theme is turning the usual negative phrase associated with WTF into positive ones, many of which were visible on guests' name tags.

Among them: "Where's the focus?," "Whip the Fear" and "Where's the Future?"

There are countless possible interpretations of the acronym, many of which can lead businesspeople away in a more positive direction when frustration—the WTF moment—hits, Brenhaug explained Wednesday night.

A ribbon-cutting for Blue Rock Coaching, Brenhaug's business, also took place at the event, though it has been operating full time since 2008.

Representatives from the city of Lake Forest, including Mayor Pete Herzog and Councilman Scott Voigts, attended the private launch party, as did some of Brenhaugh's clients from as far as Kansas City.

According to Brenhaug, he sold a "few hundred" books at the event, which more than 120 people attended.
