The Great Escape: Saddleback Church's Outdoors Exercise Circuit

You don't have to attend the church to get a refreshing workout there.

Each week, we present parents with one place they can spend their precious me-time ...

Lake Forest typically has mild spring weather, and we can’t help but want to get out and enjoy it as often as possible. Of course, nobody wants to shed a layer of clothing and expose the layer of winter insulation we may have acquired, so time exercising at the gym can keep us away from our precious outdoor time. Luckily, thanks to Saddleback Church, residents can now get their fitness training done in the fresh air, and it won’t cost them a dime.

Recently, Saddleback Church installed an outdoor fitness course on its property that is free for the community to use, regardless of religious affiliation.  The half-mile course includes five stations around the perimeter of the campus, featuring a variety of equipment designed to target different muscle groups.  My favorite station is No. 4, which features a diversity of gear and an incredible view of a nature preserve and the hillsides beyond.

If you are hungry after your workout, you can visit the Refinery on campus. It offers healthy options that fit in with the church’s .  Options include agave-glazed salmon tacos, lemon herb chicken wraps and rice bowls, all at very reasonable prices.

The details:   is at 1 Saddleback Parkway.  The course can be reached by parking in the Refinery lot and walking to the first station on the east side of the building.  It is recommended that the equipment only be used during daylight hours.
