Head's Up, Aug. 20: Council Controversy, ETHS Registration

Will the City Council rubber stamp projects for developers who contributed to campaigns to get some of them elected?

Taking a look at what's going down and coming up for residents in the Lake Forest area.

• There's an interesting showdown looming at the Lake Forest City Council meeting tonight, 7 p.m., at City Hall. The five-member council will make decisions regarding a couple of developers who invested heavily in the 2012 election campaigns that yielded newcomers Dwight Robinson and Adam Nick, both of whom have supported Trumark Homes and Brookfield Residential to the point of changing the manner in which business is typically done in the city. Blogger Jim Gardner has followed the story for months, and this is his latest piece on the matter.

• A couple of areas you may want to avoid the next couple days are Rockfield Boulevard, which is undergoing construction, and Serrano near El Toro High, which is being used by construction workers to off-load equipment to build the stadium.

• Make your dinner plans accordingly. In other words, you may want to hold off on Taco Tuesday in lieu of Chipotle's Dine Out Wednesday in which a percentage of proceeds from sales from 5-8 p.m. will benefit the El Toro High instrumental program.

• Former Angel outfielder Chad Curtis was convicted by jury based on testimony of three girls who were teens when Curtis was alleged to have touched them inappropriately, leading to six counts of criminal sexual misconducts.

• Bullring registration takes place at El Toro High this week, 8 a.m. Seniors cycled through on Monday. Today it's juniors, Wednesday it's sophomores and Thursday it's the freshmen. Makeup registration is next Monday. Make sure forms are signed by parents.

• Rec 'N Roll comes to Rimgate Park, which was recently site of the biggest gathering of kids for the summer program with 75. The activities go from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. The crew hits El Toro Park at 1:30 p.m. This is the penultimate week of the program, whose theme this week is Wild Wild West. Next week it's Water Week.
