What's coming up and going down in the Lake Forest and Foothill Ranch area.
• The Planning Commission meets tonight, 7 p.m., for the first time since Jolene Fuentes was appointed to replace Tim Hughes, one of the city's original commissioners. The appointment raised some eyebrows, and of course Jim Gardner's Blog expressed his opinion. After swearing in, Fuentes and her colleagues will take on language regarding medical marijuana dispensaries. Then they will reorganize, choosing a new chairman. If you missed it last week, the appointment set off a couple of contrasting opinions at the end of the meeting from Peter Herzog and Adam Nick.
• Those interested in signing the Save Lake Forest petition can do so today at City Hall from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. and from 6:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. Deadline is Sept. 19.
• Martin Gerschwitz, keyboardist and lead singer of the band Iron Butterfly, will perform at Bigshots Billiards Bar and Grill on Friday, 9 p.m. No cover. On Saturday, the band Five South makes its debut at the same location.
• Wednesday was Sept. 11, a chance for Americans to remember the attacks of 2001. Orange County victim Lisa Frost was remembered in Rancho Santa Margarita at her memorial, and motorcycles took to the street from Cook's Corner in an annual trek to Long Beach in their Ride to Remember 9/11.
