Worthwhile notes for Lake Forest-area residents.

Taking a look at what's going down and coming up for residents in the Lake Forest area.

• If you want to get a feel for the politics apparently at play in Lake Forest, Jim Gardner's blog takes a look under the surface of the Planning Commission. What do you think should be the role of a planning commissioner, someone who rubber stamps the desires of business owners and developers, or someone who makes them accountable for creating something that will hold up to scrutiny? Tell us in the comments.

• Oscar Luis Morlett III, who is accused of using an ax to kill his stepmom in her Lake Forest home on Friday, had his arraignment rescheduled. His next appearance in court should be Aug. 30.

• Robert Steffen, who is up for Best Male Vocalist for the Orange County Music Awards, will be the featured performer tonight, 8 p.m., at Our Place.

• Love your pets? Of course you do! It might be worthwhile to check out what Jack has to say about preparing for a potential disaster during the fire season, especially if you live in an area that backs up to the wilderness. Are you listening, Foothill Ranch?

Curbside Bites at Trabuco Hills High benefits the Mustangs baseball program. There's quite the assortment of food trucks from 5:30-6:30 p.m.: Mustache Mikes, Cajun on Wheels, Kala Truck, GD Bro Truck, Crepes Bonaparte, and Calbi BBQ. We know THHS is El Toro's rival, but that doesn't extend to food, does it?
