Lake Forest MMA Fighter Evans-Smith to Fight in WSOF 10 Event Saturday Night

From a self-described punk rocker during her teenage days to a rising Mixed Martial Arts star, Lake Forest resident Ashlee Evans-Smith will compete in her third professional fight during the World Series of Fighting 10 event taking place at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino.

“MMA mellowed me out, gave me structure and discipline,” said Evans-Smith. “Because if I didn't have that I was going to end up a deadbeat.”

The 26-year-old Evans-Smith (2-0) will take on 32-year-old Marciea Allen (3-1, 1 KO) of Watertown, S.D., in the WSOF event, which will be aired on NBC Sports Network on Saturday night at 7 p.m. PT.

The Evans-Smith and Allen bout is a women’s bantamweight event scheduled for three rounds.

Evans-Smith is best known as the only fighter to defeat MMA transgender fighter Fallon Fox, which Evans-Smith won via a third-round TKO. She is a graduate of Menlo College in Silicon Valley, Calif., and earned a degree in Mass Communications.

“I'm very impressed with her striking,” Evans-Smith said of Allen. “It's definitely her best feature and I'm gonna respect that. But I'm definitely going to exploit that as well. So I'm going to strike with her and if she out-strikes me – which I highly doubt – then I'll turn to my other skills.”

While in high school, Evans-Smith was the first girl ever to compete on the all-boys wrestling team.
