'One Direction' Wins The Weekend Box Office

The documentary drops 'Lee Daniels' The Butler' to second place.

It is a winning weekend for "One Direction: This is Us," according to estimates furnished by Hollywood.com Box-Office. 

The movie, which opened in the United Kingdom on Thursday and in the U.S. on Friday, is expected to bring in $20.5 million through Monday in North America. When that is added to its estimated $14.5 million dollar gross elsewhere, its worldwide take is expected to be $35 million. The movie's expected take in North America for Friday, Saturday and today is $17 million.

"Lee Daniels The Butler" was second, with an expected take of $14,742,000. for Friday, Saturday and today. That's an 11 percent drop, according to Hollywood.com Box-Office.

"We're the Millers" is estimated to bring in $12,610,000. through today. That will bring its overall take to more than $100 million, according to Hollywood.com Box-Office.

"Planes" is expected to earn $7,756,000. through today and $10,713,000. through Monday, according to Hollywood.com Box-Office.     

"Instructions Not Included" is expected to have the biggest Spanish language opening ever in North America, with an anticipated $9,300,000. take through Monday, according to Hollywood.com Box Office, which lists the movie's projected earnings through today at $7,500,000.

Rounding out the top 10 most popular films on the continent, as estimated by the studios, were "Elysium" ($6.3 million through today and $8.1 million through Monday), "Mortal Instruments: City of Bones" ($5.2 million through today and $6.4 million through Monday), "The World's End" ($4,759,494. through today), "Getaway" ($4,505,000. through today) and "Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters" ($4,425,000. through today and $6.05 million through Monday.)
