O.C. Gas Gets Cheaper

Average price for a gallon of gas in Orange County dropped six-tenths of a cent Saturday.

Gas prices in Orange County continued their slow decline this weekend, a trend drivers have been witnessing for more than a month.

According to the Automobile Club of Southern California, the five week reduction in prices has pushed the average gas price below its year-ago cost.

The average cost of a gallon of gas in the county Sunday was $4.183, a three-tenths of a cent drop from the previous day, according to City News Service.

However, the price drivers paid at the pump in April 2011 were nearly the highest recorded throughout that year, according to the auto club.

“Motorists need to continue actively shopping around for gas prices and make sure they are maximizing their fuel economy by avoiding speeding and regularly checking their tires for properly inflation," said Auto Club spokesperson Jeffrey Spring.

Prices for gas in Orange County have dropped for 27 days in a row now, and are now at their lowest since Feb. 22, the wire service reported Sunday. In the past 27 days, the average price has decreased 16.2 cents, including six-tenths of a cent Saturday.

The average Orange County price is 3.6 cents less than a week ago, 18 cents lower than one month ago and 2.1 cents below what it was one year ago, City News Service reported.

On June 16, 2008, the average price of gas in Orange County topped out at $4.598, according to data from AAA.
