Unemployment Drops in Orange County

Jobless figures for March were lower than February and better than state and national averages.

Unemployment in Orange County dropped to 6.3 percent in March, down from 6.5 percent in February, according to seasonally adjusted numbers released Friday by the state.

In neighboring Los Angeles County, the rate declined to 10.2 percent in March, down from a revised 10.3 percent in February and 11.2 percent a year ago, according to the state Employment Development Department said.

California's jobless rate was 9.4 percent in March, down from 9.6 percent in February and 10.7 percent a year earlier, according to the EDD.

The comparable estimates for the nation were 7.6 percent in March, 7.7 percent in February and 8.2 percent a year ago.
