Company Doubles Shuttered Boutique's Donation to Local Charity

Breast Cancer Solutions, a nonprofit started by Lake Forest woman Heather Gilbert, receives twice the money it had expected to from a going-out-of-business charity event.

After nearly 20 years of business, the doors of Lake Forest Drive clothing boutique Expressions may be closed, but a local nonprofit that helps breast cancer patients is still reaping the rewards of its charitable efforts.

Before the store shut down, owner Sally Lewis held a final bunco night to raise money for Breast Cancer Solutions, a nonprofit started by Lake Forest woman Heather Gilbert.

The event raised more than $1,000, but BCS will receive twice that, Gilbert found out recently.

Proceeds from the bunco party have been matched by Brighton Collectibles, an accessories company with products that Lewis carried at Expressions, Gibert said.

"The fun we had [at the bunco party] will mean months of support for local patients," she said. "We at BCS are so grateful to Sally for all she has done to support our programs, and to Brighton Collectibles Inc. and [Brighton's] Laura Young and Jerry Kohl, for their passion and support as well."

The money BCS raises goes to support Southern California breast cancer patients. The organization assists breast cancer patients struggling financially during treatment. It also advocates for patients by providing referrals to other organizations which provide additional cancer support services.
