Nicole Davenport, 23, was killed in a car crash Friday that has left her family heartbroken and full of questions.

Updated Jan. 20, 11:11 a.m. with information how to donate to the parents.

At the corner of Bake Parkway and North Pointe Driveway sits a memorial made up of candles, flowers, teddy bears, a photo and one can of Bud Light, the favorite beer of Nicole Davenport, 23, who .

"She loved her job, and she loved her family and, I'm not going to lie, she was a party girl," said Stephanie Davenport, her mother. "She worked her butt off and lived to play."

Nicole, in fact, was working when the crash happened shortly after 11 a.m. on Friday. As a courier for an attorney service, she was in the process of delivering legal documents—as she has done for the last five years—when, police say, she made a left-hand turn from Bake onto North Pointe in her employer's 2009 Hyundai Accent and was struck by a 2007 Toyota Tacoma traveling east on Bake.

Davenport died quickly, authorities told the family, while the other driver was apparently uninjured, according to a police officer .

One of the two cars had run a red light at the intersection, but police told the Davenport family it would be months before an investigation determined which of the two drivers in the accident was at fault.

"We're in limbo right now, and it's going to be that way for a few months," said Ron Davenport, her father. "I know my daughter didn't run a red light; she would never do that."

The family is hoping that anyone who witnessed the crash will get in touch and tell what they saw. Ron said he can't sleep, wondering exactly how the accident happened and whether his daughter suffered before she died.

Nicole lived in Anaheim but was raised in Lakewood, Calif., where she went to Millikan High School for a time. She worked at the law firm with her twin sister, Kymberly Davenport, and her brother, Christopher Cain, 25.

The family knew something was amiss Friday when Davenport didn't answer  phone calls from her sibling co-workers.

"That wasn't normal," Ron said. "We're a very close-knit family."

It was hours later that the family arrived at Mission Hospital and heard that the body of a white female in her early 20s was there. Ron was called in to identify the body.

"As soon as they opened the curtain, I saw her laying there, and I saw what no father wants to see of his 23-year-old daughter," he said. "I lost it. My daughter was lost."

He said Kymberly and Cain had suspected the worst hours earlier.

"They were so close, they just felt it," Ron said. "They had a gut feeling, a premonition; they just knew it. It was our worst nightmare."

At the street-corner vigil on Saturday, family and friends placed candles at both the corner of the intersection where the crash happened and also at the spot, a few feet up the road, where she bled out.

Stephanie said she'll remember her daughter for the way she worked hard but lived for the weekends. She and her siblings would come home from work and watch Jersey Shore or sports; Nicole was an avid New Orleans Saints and Los Angeles Lakers fan.

"She would come in and jump on our bed Sunday morning and say, 'Time for football!' " Stephanie said. "She was 23 years old, but she was still young at heart."

A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. at Westminster Memorial Park on Saturday, with a viewing at 9 a.m.

"She's a beautiful girl, very vibrant, full of life, and we miss her a lot," Ron said. "We're hoping people come forward as witnesses so we can get some closure on this."

Both Davenport parents are unemployed and said they would accept donations to help with service arraignments. Checks can be made out to Ron Davenport or Stephanie Davenport and can be sent to 1619 W. Crescent Ave., Apt. D19, Anaheim CA 92801. Ron Davenport can be reached at 909-241-0265.
