More Dog Days on Horizon for Lake Forest

Temperatures remain in the 90s throughout the week, according to the National Weather Service.

No relief is in sight from the sweltering heat in Lake Forest, according to meteorologists, who predict temperatures will remain in the 90s throughout the week.

The temperature is expected to reach 97 degrees Monday and 95 degrees Tuesday. During the rest of the week, the days will be slightly cooler, with temperatures remaining in the low 90s, according to the National Weather Service.

Throughout the week, nighttime temperatures will level out at about 65 degrees.

Southern California Edison, which provides power to Lake Forest, is urging residents to conserve energy. To do so, the utility offers the following tips:

  • Set thermostats no lower than 78 degrees.
  • Use electric fans instead of air conditioning when practical.
  • Turn off unused appliances and equipment.
  • Shut off lights when leaving a room.
  • Close drapes and blinds to keep out direct sunlight during hot periods.
  • Avoid using evaporative coolers or humidifiers at the same time an air conditioner is running.
  • Operate swimming pool equipment and energy-intensive appliances, such as dishwashers, washing machines and dryers, during early morning and evening hours.
  • Limit the opening and reopening of refrigerators, which are major users of electricity in most homes.
  • When possible, businesses should shift power-intensive work processes to morning or evening hours.
  • Turn off lights in unused areas.
