The Orange County Fair has provided lots of cuddly stories about farm animals. But this week, fairgoers saw the not-so-cute side of farm life when a 4-year-old sow died after giving birth to a litter of 11 piglets.
"The fair provides a great lesson about the cycle of life,'' Orange County Fair Board member Nick Berardino said. "There's much to be learned about the cycle of life through agriculture. The mom unfortunately passed away, but then there are the piglets that were born. So one part of the circle closed and another part of the circle began.''
The sow, named Daisy, had a seizure today, after giving birth to the piglets the night before. Her piglets appear healthy.
