Powerful Thunderstorm Hits Lake Forest

Huge claps of thunder set off car alarms at about 9 a.m. Saturday. The National Weather Service says more hail could hit later this weekend.

Some Lake Forest and Foothill Ranch residents were rudely awakened Saturday morning when huge claps of thunder terrified pets and set off car alarms.

The storm, which is expected to continue to move north through Orange County this morning, could bring hail, the National Weather Service predicts.

"These storms are quite strong with brief heavy rain and frequent lightening strikes," the NWS reports. "Strong gusty winds and hail are also possible."

At 8:45 a.m., the storm was along the coast at Costa Mesa, moving north into Huntington Beach, and in Mission Viejo and Coto de Caza moving north into Lake Forest and Foothill Ranch, says the NWS.
