Rick Warren Tweets, Then Deletes Tax Jab

A comment posted by the head of Saddleback Church seems to disagree with President Barack Obama's suggestion that the rich should pay more taxes. Then the pastor backtracks.

Political blogs are all atwitter about a tweet sent from the account of Rick Warren, pastor of , implying opposition to higher taxes for the rich.

"HALF of America pays NO taxes. Zero," Warren tweeted. "So they're happy for tax rates to be raised on the other half that DOES pay taxes."

The tax tweet attracted online notice, including a scathing post from political blog Wonkette and a subsequent mention on Politico's website, before it was removed from Twitter.

After the tweet vanished, Warren responded to a Twitter user and blogger who had derided the pastor's tax comment as "untrue" and "mean."

Warren tweeted, "You are 100% right! It did sound mean."

Taxing the wealthy at a greater rate has been a consistent theme in Obama's speeches about the nation's debt-ceiling, including his Monday address.
