Stretching for Runners

Today I ran the Surf City Half Marathon in Huntington Beach.  It is one of my favorite races.  It is well-organized, is a beautiful course and has friendly participants and enthusiastic and motivational spectators.  But after running 13.1 miiles I need some serious stretching!  Check out my lates video "Stretching for Runners" and follow along as I take you through a flexibility series focusing on muscles used during a running workout.

I read someplace that stretching before running is not all that it's cracked up to be as far as preventing injuries. What is the truth in your opinion? And what do you base your opinion on? Personal experience or documented evidence? What is the purpose of stretching after exercise? After the body is warm didn't the exercise itself already stretch the body? I think most orthopedic physicians would agree that stretching is important for all people - athletes or not - to ward off some forms of arthritis and other forms of structural disease as we age. But I am curious about it's importance before, during or after exercise to maintain good health.
