To Help a Brother, Deputies to Play Powderpuff

Proceeds from two flag football games pitting female Orange County Sheriff's Department deputies against officers from other area police departments will be donated to the family of Jimmy Pequeno, a 19-year-old from Lake Forest who was gravely injured in a car crash last year.

Pequeno is the youngest son of Rob Pequeno, a former Marine and current sheriff's deputy in Lake Forest who took months off of work to care for his son after the June 2011 accident.

Community members have raised thousands of dollars to help the Pequenos with the cost of their son's long-term healthcare.

Shortly after the crash, Jimmy Pequeno was placed into a medically-induced coma from which he has yet to emerge. Since then, he has undergone a range of procedures and surgeries.

Teams of women deputies will play officers from the Santa Ana Police Department at noon and a team from the Long Beach Police Department at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Eddie West Field in Santa Ana on Saturday.

It's the third annual flag football competition between the Orange County law enforcement agencies.

The Association of Orange County Deputy Sheriffs, Santa Ana Police Officers Association and Long Beach Police Officers Association will be selling lunches of your choice of carne asada, chicken, carnitas for $5, beans, rice, tortillas and a drink included.
