Moms Talk: A TV in a Kid's Bedroom and a Cell Phone in the Backpack?

What do you think about kids using technology?

Moms Talk is Lake Forest Patch’s newest feature in an ongoing effort to connect with local moms and families. We encourage you and your local circle of friends to come together and build an online community of support here at the Patch.

I know I'm like a kid in a candy store when a new gadget hits the market. If it's shiny, sparkly and will make me look cooler while using it, I'm in! But now we have a 2-year-old, Will, running rampant in our house, and nothing is safe. Will uses my cell phone to watch clips of his favorite TV shows or to have a quick chat with his grandma. He already knows how to do the sweeping motion on the screen to view the next picture.

He’s not getting his own cell phone anytime soon, but it’s amazing how quickly he’s caught on! He’s also champing at the bit to play Xbox 360 with his father. He holds a battery-less controller while he watches Dad play.

My husband and I have an ongoing discussion about whether or not our children will get their own TV in their room. I say never. However, we live in such a techie society where computers, televisions and phones are very cool commodities. It's going to be hard to deny our kids these luxuries-turned-necessities.

So: At what age do you purchase a techie gadget just for your kid? Leave a comment below with your thoughts!
