Update: Hospitalized Scooter Driver, 53, Is Local Graphic Designer

The Sunday evening crash severely injured one man and temporarily shut down a portion of Towne Centre Drive.

A 53-year-old man is hospitalized following a Sunday evening scooter crash in Foothill Ranch.

His co-workers identified the injured man Monday as Sille Novakovic, graphic designer at Foothill Ranch company Renkus-Heinz.

"We are all praying for him," coworker Jonas Domkus wrote in an e-mail.

Novakovic was reportedly thrown from his motorized scooter when a black Toyota Scion crashed into him at about 6 p.m. Sunday in front of a Towne Centre Drive apartment complex.

He was taken from the scene to Mission Hospital where he underwent surgery with injuries to his head, face and leg, according to Lake Forest police services.

"The front end of the car was sitting on top of a scooter," said area resident Ken Lee. He was the first person to stop at the crash, and his wife called 911 to report it, he wrote in an e-mail.

As the couple pulled up to the scene, two males in their late teens to early 20s emerged from the Scion, appearing "dazed and confused" following the crash, Lee said.

Novakovic was laying on his left side with a "pencil size hole on his right temple" and there was "blood everywhere," but he was still breathing and appeared to be conscious, Lee said.

People from Sonterra Apartments and another passerby—who Lee said he believes was a registered nurse—also came to the scene of the accident to help Novakovic, he said.

A portion of Towne Centre Drive was temporarily closed after the accident.

As of Monday morning, Novakovic remained in critical condition, according to authorities.

An investigation into the crash is ongoing.
