54-Year-Old Woman Drowns in Mission Viejo Swimming Pool

She was found under the water by a male friend around 6:35 p.m.

A 54-year-old woman drowned in a backyard swimming pool in Mission Viejo tonight.

The woman, who had been swimming alone in the pool, was found under the water by a male friend around 6:35 p.m., Orange County Fire Authority Capt. Steve Concialdi said.

It was not known how long the victim had been in the water, Concialdi said.

The accident occurred in the 21000 block of Herencia, Concialdi said.

From the OC register comes this very surprising statistic: "drownings in Orange County this year, 65 percent have been adults in their 50s or older."

Could ba low numbers of drownings, 13 out (only) 20 is exactly 65% and summer isn't in full swing when kids will be in the water a lot more. Heart attacks. Drunks. Boat accidents.
