Bicyclist Killed in Hit-and-Run Crash

Deputies are looking for a white van with front-end damage. Accident occurred around 10 p.m. on Serrano Road in Lake Forest.

A 47-year-old Lake Forest man struck by a hit-and-run van while bicycling through Lake Forest late Tuesday died hours later early Wednesday morning at the hospital, authorities said.

The man was hit by a white van traveling north on Serrano Road at Ridge Route Drive around 10 p.m., said Orange County Sheriff's Department Lt. Gary Strachan. 

After hitting the bicyclist, the van's driver fled north on Serrano Road, officials said.

The cyclist was taken to Mission Hospital in Mission Viejo with "severe head trauma'' and succumbed early Wednesday, he said. The man's name was not immediately released pending family notification.

Authorities are searching for a white van with front-end damage. Orange County sheriff's investigators were canvassing the nearby Lake Forest neighborhood Wednesday, hoping to find witnesses to the fatal hit- and-run collision.
