Bicyclist Shot with BB Gun; 2 Men Arrested

The woman was shot Wednesday evening.

Two young men are in jail after a woman riding her bicycle was shot with a BB gun, authorities say.

According to police, at about 6:20 p.m. Wednesday a caller reported that someone was shooting BB guns at passing bicyclists in the area of El Toro Road and the 241 freeway overpass. 

A woman told police she was riding on the bike trail when she was struck behind the left ear by a BB.

Deputies headed to the scene and pulled three people and two pump-action BB guns from the bushes. 

Two of the three people—Dillon John Roots, 19, and Creek Sonderhede Larsen, 18, were arrested on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon.

Roots and Larsen were both booked into the Orange County Jail on $50,000 bail, according to Sgt. Angel Andrade.

No city of residence was available for either suspect, both of whom are expected to appear in court in Santa Ana today, according to Andrade.

According to court records, Roots already has a history of interaction with police, for offenses ranging from vandalism to receiving stolen property.

The victim did not require medical attention, authorities said.
