Burglary Suspect Tased, Arrested

A 23-year-old man is in custody after leading police on a short foot chase Monday night.

Authorities have arrested a 23-year-old burglary suspect who led police on a foot pursuit Monday night after allegedly stealing items from a Fernleaf Drive residence.

A Lake Forest resident called police shortly after 11 p.m. to report a possible garage burglary on the 21600 block of Fernleaf.

According to police, the resident spotted a man in his early 20s in the garage, who immediately fled. The resident's son, who arrived shortly after his parent saw the man, told police that he saw a man riding away on a bicycle.

Police stopped Michael Murray, who had been riding a bicycle, near the intersection of Pittsford and Lake Forest Drive.

According to police, Murray was sweating despite the chilly weather and had on him a few items that deputies believed were stolen.

Murray initially gave the deputies a false name and as deputies were in the process of trying to identify Murray by his tattoos, he fled on foot into a nearby apartment complex, according to police.

Deputies followed Murray, who reportedly climbed over a railing onto a balcony of an apartment and attempted to open the sliding glass door.

Before he could enter, a deputy deployed his Taser, striking Murray and knocking him to the ground, according to sheriff's Sgt. Angel Andrade.

The deputy used his Taser on Murray because he feared for the safety of the apartment occupants, Andrade said.

Murray was taken into custody and charged with burglary, possession of stolen property and resisting arrest.

His city of residence was not immediately available.
