Car Plows Into Bus Stop, 2 Seriously Injured

An elderly man is at the wheel as victims may lose appendages.

By Martin Henderson

Two people were seriously injured Tuesday when a vehicle drove into them while they were waiting at a bus stop.

The victims each suffered a major injury to one of their legs, according to Sgt. Jason Keller of the Orange County Sheriff's Department. He said the injuries might lead to amputations for both victims.
The incident took place at the corner of El Toro Road and Muirlands about 3:45 p.m. on Tuesday.

The driver of the vehicle who ran through the bus stop was an 81-year-old man, Keller said.

Although the injuries were major, they were not life threatening. Both victims were taken to Mission Hospital.

When will they start requiring driving tests at age 80 and above?

At that age things change fast a driving test will help, what a terrible site that must have been.

I passed the accident about 45 mins after it happened. the car was a Miata - a sports car. does anyone know what happen? How he came to a rest on the sidewalk facing the wrong way? Was he speeding? did someone cut him off? had a heart attack? the article could be more informative.
