Cemetery Building Sustains 'Heavy Damage' in Fire

A single-story building at El Toro Memorial Park caught fire Monday evening.

A maintenance building at El Toro Memorial Park caught fire Monday evening, causing heavy damage to the facility and an adjacent storage container.

Initial reports of explosions brought a hazardous-materials team out to the scene at 25751 Trabuco Rd., along with approximately 25 firefighters, who knocked down the blaze in about 10 minutes.

Flames and heat damaged the building, which was used also as a break room. It also burned an attached two-car garage, toolshed, patio, and a nearby storage container that held "expensive yard equipment," according to Capt. Marc Stone.
