Not all getaways are like the ones in the movies.

Shoplifting is a crime, and it's only made worse when you wreck your mom's car in a botched getaway.

That's the gist of what occurred Monday at the corner of Trabuco and Lake Forest Drive.

According to the blotter of the Orange County Sheriff's Department, a petty theft occurred just after 6 p.m. at the Ralphs Grocery Store. Employees chased the suspects from the store into the parking lot, where the suspect got into a black Mazda Tribute.

However, in their zeal to leave the scene of the alleged crime, they crashed the Mazda into the Chevy Tahoe of a good Samaritan. Two men inside the Mazda then fled on foot.

When deputies contacted the registered owner of the Mazda, the woman informed police her son had the car last.

The call was made Monday, 6:02 p.m., from Trabuco and Lake Forest.

This report was culled from the Orange County Sheriff's website. Not all facts in each report are made public; the outcome of the report, as well as the facts, may differ from the original blotter item. All items are alleged to have occurred. There should be no assumption of guilt based on this limited information.
