DUI Checkpoint Tonight South of Lake Forest

The Orange County Sheriff's Department is trying to keep drunken drivers off the road during the holiday weekend.

You won't run into any delays because of DUI checkpoints in Lake Forest this holiday weekend, but if your Labor Day plans take you south, there's a chance you could find yourself blowing into a Breathalyzer.

Tonight in Mission Viejo, sheriff's deputies are setting up a DUI checkpoint at 9 p.m. The checkpoint, intended to catch drunken drivers, will be in operation until 3 a.m. Saturday.

As a complement to the Mission Viejo checkpoint, many other cities that contract with the Orange County Sheriff's Department—such as Lake Forest—will be stepping up patrols with an eye toward people driving under the influence during the holiday weekend.

Anti-DUI mobilizations by the OCSD take place each year around major holidays to deter partygoers from taking to the road.

Funding for the checkpoint program comes from a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
