Former Angel Convicted of Teen Sex Assault in Michigan

Chad Curtis, who made his major league baseball debut with the Angels in 1992 and won two World Series rings with the New York Yankees, was convicted Friday in a Michigan courtroom of inappropriately touching teenage girls.

Curtis faces 15 years in prison after a jury returned after only a few hours convicting him of six counts of second-, third- and fourth-degree criminal sexual misconduct.

Three girls, two of them 15 and one 16 at the time of the assaults, testified against Curtis, 44, who was a volunteer high school weight room strength and conditioning coach at Lakewood High.

According to Michigan Live, Curtis would massage students "for purposes of muscle rehabilitation," but was accused by two of the girls of inappropriately touching their buttocks; the third girl testified Curtis "touched her private areas and fondled and kissed her breasts."

A right-handed outfielder, Curtis played three seasons for the Angels before being traded to Detroit for Tony Phillips in 1995. He played for the Dodgers for 43 games in 1996 and Cleveland in 1997 before being traded to the Yankees mid-season.  In 1999, his 10th-inning home run beat Atlanta in Game 3 en route to a World Series title for New York. He played the following two seasons with the Rangers.

Over 10 seasons Curtis batted .264 with 101 home runs, 461 runs batted in and 212 stolen bases—116 of them with the Angels.
