Updated: High-Speed Chase Ends in Arrest on El Toro Road Freeway Ramp

The passenger gets away after the pursuit that began in Buena Park.

A high-speed pursuit that began when a woman refused to pull over for a traffic stop in Buena Park ended when she crashed into a guardrail on the El Toro Road off-ramp from the 5 freeway heading south this morning, police say.

At about 10:42 a.m., the chase began, with California Highway Patrol and Buena Park Police Department officers following the car east on the 91 freeway, south on the 5 freeway, east on the 22 freeway, south on the 55 freeway and south on the 5 freeway, CHP Officer Denise Quesada said.

A male passenger exited the car when it returned to surface streets in the area of Carmenita and the 91 freeway, and was arrested a few hours later by La Palma police on two outstanding warrants, said Sgt. T. Banks of the Buena Park Police Department. He was identified as Kelly Marks, 44.

The woman's car crashed into a rail on the southbound off-ramp for El Toro Road in Laguna Hills at about 11:07 a.m., Quesada said. She was arrested and taken to Saddleback Hospital to be treated for injuries, Quesada said.

The CHP issued a SigAlert for the El Toro off-ramp at 11:12 a.m., and all lanes were cleared by 11:56 a.m.
