Injured Mountain Biker Gets Big Air After Crash
A man is rescued in Whiting Ranch after a bike ride goes awry.

A 21-year-old man was hoisted to safety Sunday after crashing on his mountain bike.
According to Capt. Steve Concialdi of the Orange County Fire Authority, the mountain biker was riding with others in Whiting Ranch when he went over the handlebars and crashed into a 70-pound rock with enough force to move the rock.
"The main takeaway from this is that he was wearing a helmet and didn't suffer a serious head injury," Concialdi said. "Also, whenever you ride on trails, you should do so with at least one other person, and he was. They called for medical aid."
The man suffered a broken arm and ribs, as well as a stomach injury, along with lacerations. The helicopter from the OCFA hoisted him from his position on Cow Trail—where he was going downhill at the time of the crash—and he was taken by air to Mission Hospital. His injuries were not life-threatening.
The incident took place early Sunday afternoon.
