Lake Forest Driver Seriously Injured In Crash That Left 2 Dead

Two men were pronounced dead at the scene, while the Lake Forest driver and a third passenger sustained major injuries.

The Orange County coroner's office today identified the second of two men killed when a large pickup truck crashed on the Route 73 Toll Road near Laguna Beach.

Victor Benites and Esteban Dimas Alonzo, both 42, were passengers in a Ford F-650 pickup truck that hit a guardrail on the southbound 73 at the Laguna Canyon Road interchange. The crash was at about 5:45 p.m. Thursday.

The large pickup then turned onto its right side, according to a CHP report. Benites and Alonzo were both sitting on the right side of the four-seat truck and were killed.

Alonzo was a Santa Ana resident, no hometown for Benites was available.

The 52-year-old driver, from Lake Forest, and a 39-year-old passenger from Santa Ana were sitting on the left side, suffered major injuries and were transported to Mission Hospital Regional Medical Center in Mission Viejo.
