Lake Forest Teen 'Stable' After Friday's Car Crash

Two teens were hospitalized. One remains in the hospital in critical condition.

The after a car crash on Santiago Canyon Road is in stable but critical condition at Mission Hospital, authorities say.

He and one passenger, also a 17-year-old from Lake Forest, were heading southbound on Santiago Canyon in a 2007 Honda shortly after 1 a.m. when the driver lost control of the vehicle near Ridgeline Road.

The driver swerved off the road and crashed into an electrical pole, according to the California Highway Patrol, which is heading up the investigation into the crash.

The identity of both teens have not been released, though an Orange County Sheriff's Department spokesman confirmed Tuesday that the driver is the son of an agency deputy.

Although the CHP is the lead agency in the investigation, OCSD deputies also responded to the scene of the crash early Friday, as did the Orange County Fire Authority.

The crash pinned the driver inside the car; the passenger was ejected, sustaining minor injuries. The passenger was treated and released from the hospital the day of the crash, according to CHP.

According to witnesses, the solo-vehicle crash knocked out power to parts of the surrounding areas for about an hour.
