Man Arrested on Suspicion of Kidnapping

The suspect allegedly grabbed a woman on a trail and tried to drag her away, deputies say.

A 29-year-old man was in custody Tuesday on suspicion of the attempted kidnapping of a woman on the Serrano Trail in Lake Forest Monday morning.

A woman told deputies the man, Edgar Enrique Lumbi, believed to be a transient, had been hiding in the bushes when he jumped out and grabbed her by the arm at around 10 a.m., said Orange County Sheriff's spokesman Jim Amormino.

Lumbi allegedly dragged the woman several feet before she was able to break free. He then grabbed her again, and she was able to again break free, Amormino said.

Another walker saw the incident, and he gave Lumbi chase but lost track of Lumbi near the creek bed there, Amormino said.

Deputies arrested Lumbi at 10 p.m. Monday. Having known him from prior contact with police, deputies caught up to him near the intersection of Los Alisos and Jeronimo in Mission Viejo, Amormino said.
