Man Arrested on Suspicion of Kidnapping

The suspect allegedly grabbed a woman on a trail and tried to drag her away, deputies say.

A 29-year-old man was in custody Tuesday on suspicion of the attempted kidnapping of a woman on the Serrano Trail in Lake Forest Monday morning.

A woman told deputies the man, Edgar Enrique Lumbi, believed to be a transient, had been hiding in the bushes when he jumped out and grabbed her by the arm at around 10 a.m., said Orange County Sheriff's spokesman Jim Amormino.

Lumbi allegedly dragged the woman several feet before she was able to break free. He then grabbed her again, and she was able to again break free, Amormino said.

Another walker saw the incident, and he gave Lumbi chase but lost track of Lumbi near the creek bed there, Amormino said.

Deputies arrested Lumbi at 10 p.m. Monday. Having known him from prior contact with police, deputies caught up to him near the intersection of Los Alisos and Jeronimo in Mission Viejo, Amormino said.

Lumbi's bail is set at $100,000 and his next appearance in court is set for Wednesday, according to jail records.

Let's take this step by step: You didn't answer on how you determined that this man is an illegal immigrant. You didn't say how you, in your day to day life, determine whether or not the people around you are are legal or ilegal. You failed to say what your views on financial burdens on the state or the country due to illegal immigration have to do with this man or this story. I posted the studies because you stated you had never seen one. What exactly am I, as an individual, not connected to the story, not stating an opinion on amnesty or illegal immigration supposed to be proud of? You call it damning evidence and seem to be perplexed as to why I posted it. I have not in any of my posts stated a position on any of your positions so not sure how it is damning to me. If a strange dog entered my home I would make no assumption that because he is a dog that he would bite me. I would observe his behavior and act accordingly. And are we comparing illegal immigrants to dogs? Please clarify. Do you also know that we have millions of other illegal immigrants that are not from Mexico. They are from India, Canada, England and many other countries. Do they bother you as much? And since we are on the subject, are you an illegal immigrant? I have no way of knowing who I am dealing with since I can't see the color of your skin.

Now we know. He regularly judges books by the cover. This would explain a lot.

Where on the trail ?
El Toro Resident January 23, 2013 at 02:25 AM
I would like to know exactly where this happened at? I did see a report in the O.C. Register that it happened near Foothill Ranch area, is this the same bike path/trail that runs the creek bed through Jeronimo to the golf course? There is an elementary school near by. There is also an area where day laborers hang around not far from the school. I'm happy they caught the idiot and I hope the woman is okay.

Yes, we humans are funny in that way. When we smell smoke we think 'fire'. When we see dark clouds approaching on the horizon we think 'rain'. When we see a ball come out into the road between 2 cars while driving down the road we think 'slow down - children'. But living next to Mexico with millions of unlawful migrants living in California, 25% of our jail beds occupied by illegals and very little domestic enforcement if a disheveled hispanic man darts from a bush and attempts to kidnap a woman in a public park and we think 'illegal?' we are automatically guilty of 'hate think' and judging a book by it's cover. heh. Go apply at the Improv, mfriedrich. I bet you'd bring down the house! :^)
MFriedrich January 23, 2013 at 05:56 AM
Except the smell of smoke might be in from clothing worn at a bonfire the night before. We also know that dark clouds don't always result in rain. A ball rolling into the street might just as easily be some adults playing a Youtube video prank on drivers with no children in sight. It helps to have some facts before rushing to racist judgements about incidents or intentions. Thanks for thoroughly proving my point for me.
cheryl January 23, 2013 at 02:45 PM
According to the OC Register, this happened on Peachwood and Trabuco, which is near the Lake Forest and Trabuco intersection, there is a 7-eleven and a gas station on one corner and Ralph's and CVS on the other. Orner. Here is a link to the article http://www.ocregister.com/news/amormino-408794-woman-along.html

John Brashears January 23, 2013 at 03:49 PM
Trail from Trabuco goes up past houses on left. Just after the last house on left and up 600 yards where a small stretch of trail is uphill just past the paved entrance to the Water property. It's before the wooden bridge that goes over the creek. How I know is that I live there and my husband talked to the officer doing the reporting.
jenny January 23, 2013 at 05:24 PM
I hate that this happened. our paths should be safe to walk at least during broad daylight. I hope she is ok. when people are arrested they used to be run through the system to check for legal status but at least in LA it became to expensive to bus people back everyday ( and yea there were bus loads). police are told not to check or question legal status unless arrested due to victims being afraid to call the police when needed. a lot of resources are spent on illegals but I don't see big conspiracy just a huge mess. the story is about violence not illegals or any other hot topic. like was she armed?
JustUs January 23, 2013 at 05:25 PM
Mr. Hand-Wringer extraordinaire is telling us as humans that we are not allowed to use the reasoning or logic portions of our brains any longer. We must suppress all natural thoughts that might be politically incorrect. We are the new Stepford Americans. Submit, you peasants! Submit! hah. Besides, considering the possiblility that a disheveled hispanic man who darts from the bushes and reportedly attempts to kidnaps a woman is illegal is not even close to being 'rascist' as Mr. Hand Wringer assumes himself. It is a question of NATIONAL SOVERIEGNTY - not of race. It is a question of being LEGAL or ILLEGAL. And with an estimated 3M (minimum) illegals in California it is a perfectly logical question. So besides being a 'hand-wringer', he's a race-baiter too! :^)
JustUs January 23, 2013 at 05:32 PM
Be careful Tiny. The race-baiters will accuse you of being a 'racist' for disseminating the facts. It's a very dangerous time to be a law-abiding, obedient American citizen. And just because you're paranoid doesn't mean that they aren't out to get ya!!! :^)
Patrick January 23, 2013 at 05:59 PM
I ride through this trail on most Saturdays. I like seeing the hikers and runners in two or more groups. Solo woman listening to ipods look vulnerable to these crumbs. I guess I can't even let my kids stray away a 1/2 mile from the house from here on out. Be careful out there.
tiny January 23, 2013 at 06:39 PM
Agreed. Silence is golden.
JustUs January 23, 2013 at 07:02 PM
I personally think that women in Orange County who enjoy walking along the trails should be entitled to a Concealed Weapon's Permit (CCW), as long as she was legally sane with no felony or violent crime convictions and has taken an approved certified training course that deems her proficient in the use and safety of a firearm. You see, if this women along that trail had been more submissive or physically smaller - that devil would have probably had his way with her. A firearm is a great equalizer for the female species. A firearm eliminates the physical difference between a 5'2 100 pound female and a 6'3 200 pound make IMMEDIATELY. If I were Sheriff of Orange County - any woman who proved to me that she enjoys walking along Orange County nature trails and who could qualify under the aforementioned terms as I stated above, would get my blessing with a Concealed Weapon's Permit. I would be the most loved Sheriff in the State of California. Trust me on that.
MFriedrich January 23, 2013 at 10:10 PM
No, you don't have to be politically correct, JustUs. You can continue with your daily diatribes unabated. I'm just saying that latin name + crime event doesn't always equal illegal immigrant. That's it. Nothing more. So please continue with your blundering argumentation strategy on LF Patch. I realize that your mind is laden with poorly articulated conspiracy theories, but it may surprise you do know that in California we also have legal residents committing crimes too. Some of them may have latin names or origin.
JustUs January 23, 2013 at 10:35 PM
Of course we have legal residents committing crimes, mfriedrich. But consider this: Let's say that of the 14M dogs in California that some 3M were unlicensed. And lets say that of all the dogs held by the various dog shelters in California that 25%-30% had verified rabies. Ok. Now lets say you were walking down the street and a dog bit you. Would you be concerned whether that dog was rabid, mfriedrich? Or would thinking such a though indicate that you were 'bigoted' against certain types of dogs? hmmm??? Open up your mind, pal. Stop putting chains on yourself by limiting possibilities by being so grossly politically correct. You are robbing yourself of some of the humanity that our creator blessed you with. My God. Be human!
Gina O'Keefe January 24, 2013 at 12:21 PM
i would not love you as sheriff, trust me on that. so cal would come to a dead halt if all the illegal Hispanics were removed from the work force. could you imagine all the desperate housewives of oc cleaning their own homes, raising their own children, mowing their own lawns...you know as well as i, the white hypocracy that runs rampant in so cal. i have a project for you, why don't you calculate how much money Californian's save by hiring the illegal Hispanics, including taxes and benefits.
JustUs January 24, 2013 at 03:44 PM
Gina, basically you are promoting the violation of US and California Immigration and Labor laws. You are calling for selective anarchy. In fact, you applaud it. As long as the violator belongs to a special class of people - he or she is immune from the laws that the rest of us must follow. Do you have any idea how illegal immigration hurts licensed contractors who are trying to make a living and feed their families? So you are saying it's okay for the lawbreakers to hurt the ones who play by the rules of society which make us a civil and orderly population of people. You see, it's attitudes like yours that are destroying California and the USA from within. I just don't think that you have the mental capacity to understand that. When I was a kid I worked for my neighbors by mowing their lawns. It gave me lots of spending money and I learned to be self-sufficient at a young age. I was the richest kid at school even though my parents were very average. It helped build my self-image and made me realize the value of work. The illegals have now taken over that industry, as well as several other industries, that AMERICANS used to do. If you go to parts of the country that have few illegals, they have NO PROBLEM finding American labor to do the unskilled jobs. NO PROBLEM AT ALL. So your explanation falls on deaf ears. It is senseless and you have swallowed the bait all the way down to your gut. Sad that people are so misinformed.
Purvis Granger January 24, 2013 at 04:36 PM
JustUs, was immigration cited in the article? Aren't they playing cards in the TV room. Perhaps you should join them?
JustUs January 24, 2013 at 04:42 PM
Purv, just because it wasn't cited doesn't mean I can't inquire about it, does it? The same thought would run through the mind of any grown and mature adult living in Southern California. Are we somehow prohibited from thinking or connecting logical dots anymore out of political correctness, Purv?? heh. Have a great day.
Purvis Granger January 24, 2013 at 04:50 PM
JustUs- since you are a proven liar (CIA clearance, LMFAO- oh wait LMFAO is a contemporary acronym, you may have to use the Internet to look it up), and your comments have nothing to do with the story other than to expose your own bias, it's easy to question your "stability." Logical dots? Have you taken a logic course? Do you understand what a syllogism is? And your comment about "any grown and mature adult living in Southern California" is quite funny. You probably think that's true! Is that the bell ringing in your facility? Is it exercise time?
Gina O'Keefe January 24, 2013 at 05:03 PM
Dude, you are so misinformed nor do I believe YOU have the mental capacity to even read a comment with full comprehension as to what you are reading...where do I state I am promoting illegals in the work force? Where? Where do I state it's OK? It's simply the reality and usually the people complaining the loudest are the same people hiring illegal Hispanics to clean their homes, raise their kids, wash their cars and mow their lawns, simply because it's a cheaper work force. Thanks for the trip down your memory lane, doesn't change the fact that white kids TODAY are too lazy, their parent's too greedy to save a buck and promote a false sense of entitlement in their children. Btw, I am talking about So Cal specifically, thought that was clear from my previous post. Perhaps you need a little fresh air to clear out that brain of yours, just beware of the little brown people...
Gina O'Keefe January 24, 2013 at 05:05 PM
Another thought, move to AZ,,,you and that crazy gov. would get along famously.
Lady Golfnut January 24, 2013 at 05:28 PM
Cheryl - Thank you for clearing this up. I too wondered exactly where this happened as there is a "Serrano" Trail within the park of Whiting Ranch above the community of Foothill Ranch.

JustUs January 27, 2013 at 07:53 PM
"where do I state I am promoting illegals in the work force?" This is what you said in your previous comment, Gina: "so cal would come to a dead halt if all the illegal Hispanics were removed from the work force." So obviously you believe it would be a bad thing to remove illegal workers from the So. Cal. workforce. But I think it would be a GREAT THING, because it would open up new opportunities for millions of citizens who are currently collecting unemployment since they cannot find work. The workforce would bounce back and the illegal scofflaws would be punished. That's how our system was DESIGNED to work. You appear to be promoting selective anarchy where the unlawful are rewarded and the law-abiding are punished. Maybe you should move to North Korea. "Thanks for the trip down your memory lane, doesn't change the fact that white kids TODAY are too lazy, their parent's too greedy to save a buck and promote a false sense of entitlement in their children." That's total BS. The opportunities for kids have just been significantly reduced with the influx of illegals into our society who are doing jobs that the kids used to do. But you explanation would be expected since you seem to cheerlead illegal lawbreakers instead of your own fellow citizens. Does La Raza accept membership apps from gringos? Based on your sentiments you should apply.
JustUs January 27, 2013 at 07:55 PM
And one thought for you....move to North Korea. Over there the government promotes policy that hurts their own citizens. Since you applaud that over here, you would absolutely love it over there. Have a nice flight. And good luck! heh.

There was a time in this country when The Dumb and the Willfully Ignorant worked on assembly lines and wanted nothing more when they got off work other than "Miller Time," a woman with a retarded sense of morality, and a double=wide they could call "home." Then can downsizing, outsourcing, Bush the Second's devaluation of the dollar, and the economic collapse of 2008. Now The Dumb and the Willfully Ignorant are unemployable so they spend their days comment on the Patch. Even when the article deals with topics they know nothing of; they live to spew their ignorance and hatred. They don't use their real names because they claim speaking your mind can be dangerous. Tell that to Martin Luther King, Jr. Malcolm X, Nathan Hale, Thomas Paine... They are cowards and like all cowards they bully if you point out their complete lack of logic. They ruin online communication and any chance we may have had to learn from each other. They will continue to do so until we stand up and shout them down.
