A Friday morning crash on Rockfield Boulevard resulted in the death of an 89-year-old man.
He was identified as Claude J. Makin of Lake Forest.
The incident took place at 10:34 a.m. on Rockfield as the decedent, driving a 1984 Cadillac El Dorado, was struck as he pulled onto Rockfield from the Dune Mear access road.
The county's Major Accident Reconstruction Team will make the final determination, but Sgt. Jason Keller of the Orange County Sheriff's Department said it appears the victim was turning left onto Rockfield when he was struck in the driver's side door and quarter panel by another vehicle.
That vehicle, a 1995 Infiniti sedan, was driven by a 23-year-old male headed southbound on Rockfield.
The victim was taken to Mission Hospital but lifesaving efforts were unsuccessful. He was pronounced dead at 11:15 a.m.
The driver of the Infinity was taken to Saddleback Memorial Hospital with minor injuries.
Traffic was closed on Rockfield between Condor Drive and Cavanaugh for four hours.
