Mike Carona is asking a judge to shrink his 66-month sentence for witness tampering by more than half, the Orange County Register is reporting.
The former Orange County sheriff is in a federal prison near Littleton, Colo. His lawyers contend the original sentence was wrong and should be recalculated. If they’re successful, he could be released early in 2013.
Carona was indicted in 2007 and eventually convicted of trying to get Don Haidl, a former top aide, to lie for him during a corruption investigation.
