There's a new sheriff in town. Well, there will be on Friday.

The new chief of police services was introduced to city leaders on Tuesday near the conclusion of the City Council meeting of Lake Forest.

During city manager Robert Dunek's closing statement, he introduced Lt. Brad Valentine as the choice to replace retiring Lt. Pat Higa. Valentine begins work in Lake Forest on Friday.

Valentine has been working out of Santa Ana in Professional Standards Division, where he is involved in hiring new deputies. He learned he had won the job on Monday.

From 2000-07, Valentine served as a deputy in Lake Forest. He was hired by the Orange County Sheriff's Department in 1993.

TELL US IN THE COMMENTS: What do you think of the new chief, and what would you like to see his emphasis be?

Welcome Chief. If you read this, I hope part of your focus is... 1.) response times to calls, in particular, priority 1 emergency calls. 2.) customer service, in particular, dispatch. Quite possibly the rudest encounters I've ever had over the phone. 3.) community policing and controlling the crime rate. Best wishes.

I'd like to see a bigger crack down on loiters and tagging in the city

Lo, I totally agree with you about loiters especially when they wave at people and become a distraction to traffic.
