Postpartum Psychosis, Not Foul Play, Suspected in Trunk Death

The 31-year-old woman found dead in her car trunk in Irvine took her own life, police suspect.

Postpartum psychosis is suspected in the suicide of a 31-year-old woman whose body was found in the trunk of her car in Irvine, authorities said.

Anna Oung, of Long Beach, had been missing for about five hours when her body was found just after 11 p.m. Tuesday.

According to Irvine police Lt. Julia Engen, Oung had given birth to her first child about three months ago.

After she went missing, Oung's husband used cellphone-tracking technology to locate her car at Beech Tree Lane at University Drive, Engen said.

Her car was parked a few miles from where she worked. With her husband's permission, , which showed signs of injury, Engen said without elaboration.

Investigators suspect she took her own life, Engen said, though an autopsy performed Thursday was inconclusive.

The lieutentant said Oung had been diagnosed with postpartum psychosis and was being treated for it.

"Based on this and other related information discovered during interviews with Anna's family, detectives do not suspect foul play," Engen said.
