Police Roving South County For DUI Drivers Friday

Deputies will be canvassing Lake Forest, Mission Viejo and Rancho Santa Margarita.

Patrols of deputies will be roving through three south Orange County cities Friday searching for drunken or otherwise impaired drivers.

Drivers in Lake Forest, Mission Viejo and Rancho Santa Margarita will be the focus of the Orange County Sheriff’s Department “Avoid the 12” DUI Task Force, according to police.

The teams will target areas with a high incidence of arrests and collisions due to drivers under the influence of drugs or alcohol, according to the OCSD.

Saturating the area with patrol teams on the lookout for dangerous drivers is meant to reduce the rate at which Orange County citizen are killed or injured in DUI-related collisions, police said.

Funding for the program is provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
