Sheriff's Blotter: Dumping a Backpack Is Definitely Suspicious

In today's environment, some items are bound get people's attention. Also, an indignant musician and loud music in an unusual location. And lots of disturbances.

People call the law on all kinds of things they see. Sometimes it's pretty silly, and sometimes it really is suspicious.

According to the blotter of the Orange County Sheriff's Department, a call was received Friday at midnight by an informant who witnessed a vehicle pull to the side of the road; a passenger got out and hid a red backpack behind some bushes on the southwest corner of Lake Forest Drive and Newvale.

According to the informant, the vehicle drove off and the passenger who ditched the backpack continued walking into the neighborhood.

An informant called 9-1-1 to report that a man inside Guitar Center was urinating in a back corner of the building. The subject was about 18, wearing a muscle shirt (naturally) and arguing with the informant, who began to follow the urinating youth.

The subject left the building and headed for the housing tract behind the Rockfield Blvd.., business, and the informant continued to keep an eye on him. When deputies arrived, the informant signed a citizen's arrest complaint. The subject, was cited and released.

The call was made Saturday, 2:08 p.m., from El Toro and Rockfield.

Cemeteries should be places of reverence, but a report on Saturday made to the sheriff's department was that a white Prius was driving through the cemetery playing loud music at about 7:30 a.m. 

The call came from the 29700 block Rimgate at 8 a.m.

The following is a summary of selected calls from Lake Forest, to the Orange County Sheriff’s Department on May 24-25, 2013.

Traffic accident—non-injury, Saturday, 11:43 p.m., 23100 block of Tulip. Two pickups collided, and an informant reported that the driver of the Ford F-150 was uncooperative and possibly drunk; he was arrested and taken into custody.

Disturbance, Saturday  11:30 p.m., 24800 block of Via del Rio. A caller reported a number of subjects squaring off to fight one another.

Battery, Saturday  9:54 p.m., at Jeronimo and El Toro. A man called 9-1-1 reporting that he had come into contact with a group of men, who had been drinking, and they beat him up. He said one of the men had a knife. The hysterical victim said he had been stabbed—though it was later learned he had not. 

Assist outside agency, Saturday, 7:53 p.m., 22700 block of Lake Forest. Deputies assisted OCFA for a 27-year-old male who was having a seizure; an uncooperative female said the man was "on something."

Suspicious persons/circumstances, Saturday, 6:52 p.m., at Jeronimo and Cherry. About a dozen subjects were drinking behind the liquor store.

Suspicious persons/circumstances, Saturday, 6:06 p.m., from Trailview Terrace and Trailview Lane. An informant reported six subjects smoking marijuana in a very dry brush area.

Disturbance, Saturday  6:20 p.m., 22300 block of El Toro Road. An informant reported a man outside the Del Taco who was asking customers for money and trying to hit them.

Disturbance, Saturday  6:10 p.m., 25400 block of Mosswood Way. A man reported a neighbor from across the street who was at his doorstep demanding to speak to the informant's parents over a "racial matter."

Vandalism report, Saturday, 10:43 a.m., 22700 block of Aspan. Someone painted a swastika behind America's Travel Company.

Disturbance, Saturday  10:31 a.m., 200 block of Chaumont. A mother reported her son was being physical and breaking windows, and after assaulting his father he left on his skateboard. When the desk called back, the mother was "somewhat uncooperative" and hung up on the operator. 

Disturbance, Saturday  1:53 a.m., 21600 block of Audubon Way. A man reported drunk subjects who threw trash cans into the informant's front yard, and although they had left, the man was afraid of their return.  

Defrauding an innkeeper, Saturday  12:38 a.m., 26700 block of Portola Parkway. Two juveniles ate at Denny's Restaurant and did a dine and dash, exiting the parking lot in a red Chevy Blazer. Almost 30 minutes later, one of the suspects returned to the restaurant and paid the bill.

Disturbance, Thursday, 9:50 p.m., 22700 block of Lake Forest. An informant heard subject yelling at each other with one of them yelling, "I'm going to kill you."

Disturbance, Friday, 9:40 p.m., 24300 block of Muirlands. An informant reported a man in his 20s with a dog on a leash, assaulted a female customer at the business by spitting on her.

Disturbance-family dispute, Friday  9:05 p.m., 21000 block of Monisha. A man reported his wife was accusing him of cheating on her and breaking things.
