A 52-year-old pedestrian was struck by a vehicle in Lake Forest today and died at the scene, the Orange County Sheriff's Department reported.

The man, whose name was not immediately released, was killed near the intersection of Bake Parkway and Dimension Drive at 5:18 a.m., said sheriff's Lt. Steve Gil.

The driver, who remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators, was eastbound when the collision happened, according to Orange County sheriff's Lt. Jeff Hallock.

A big rig driver who happened on the collision helped block traffic until authorities could get to the scene.

From the OCR photos showing shoes in the street it didn't appear to be a jogger however what is unnerving as hell is seeing morons jogging IN the street (when there's a perfectly good sidewalk available) WITH traffic (instead of against). Compounding this, they might be jogging into the sun, thus blinding the drivers approaching them from behind and also they might be wearing head phones and sometimes even pushing a stroller.

I saw the partially covered body on my way to work this morning around 8:15. My assumption was it was someone going to work at the nursery across the street and made a bad decision. He was definitely jaywalking. 3 cars had rear ended each other as well.

Maybe this horrible accident will help push our local cops to start ticketing jaywalkers in lake forest. I have seen people nearly cause accidents on every major street in lake forest because of jay walking i have even seen police stop on el toro for jay walkers then proceed past with out ticketing the person.

Unfortunately most California pedestrians, whether they are crossing a street or crossing a parking lot, DO NOT LOOK BEFORE CROSSING! (and yes, I'm yelling) They totaly expect a 3000 + lb metal vehicle to stop on a dime as soon as they walk in front of you. And sadly, some get to feel what it's like to get hit with a 3000 + lb metal vehicle. I'm not saying this was the case in this instance, but I'd say 8 of 10 times, it is.

I was there, 3 cars back from the one that hit him. The cars were going 5 mph UNDER the speed limit. I called 911 for the guy and checked his pulse, he had none. To me, based on how it happened, it looked like a suicide.
