Shea Baker Ranch Project Gets Commission Recommendation

A unanimous vote in favor of the project moves the housing proposal into the hands of the City Council.

Shea Baker Ranch, a 2,400-home community developers hope to construct in Lake Forest, is inching closer to reality.

City commissioners on April 12 , which would bring thousands of homes and a host of small parks to a 387-acre swath of the city.

At the meeting, commission Chairman Jerry Veplanke said he expects the development to be an "absolute jewel" in Lake Forest once it is completed.

Each of the commissioners were complimentary about the project, which has been slowly working its way through the approval process as part of the city's Opportunities Study.

Shea Baker Ranch is one of five properties working through the development process as part of the Opportunities Study, which rezoned a massive swath of land under what was once the El Toro Marine Corps base flight path to accomodate residential and public uses.

The land is bounded generally on the north by the 241 toll road, Bake Parkway to the east, Commercentre Drive to the south and the city limit to the west.

Commissioners last week recommended unanimously that the council approves the proposal's tract map, environmental report and area plan.

The Lake Forest City Council will consider giving the final go-ahead for the housing proposal in the near future.
