Cub Scouts Install City Hall Flag Retirement Box

Members of Cub Scout Pack 765 present a flag retirement drop box to the Lake Forest City Council for the city's use Tuesday evening.

A swarm of uniformed Cub Scouts bearing a gift for the city made up the majority of the audience at the Lake Forest City Council meeting Tuesday evening.

Leaders of Cub Scout Pack 765 brought a flag retirement drop box before the council and presented it to the city in honor of retiring Cub Master Kam Koepnick.

The box got its first use Tuesday evening when three flags—including one brought to the meeting by Mayor Pro Tem —were dropped into its depths.

Residents are invited to drop off torn and faded United States flags in the box for proper retirement.

Cub Scout Pack 765 will care for the maintence of the box and distribute any flags dropped off to local Cub Scout Packs, Boy Scout troops, or Girl Scout troops requesting a flag to be used for a retirement ceremony.

In November, the council  to provide  with its own flag drop box.

From now on, the white receptacle, similar in shape to a streetside mailbox, will be situated in the Police Services Department at .
