City To Take on Twitterverse

City officials plan to begin using Lake Forest's generally dormant Twitter handle to share information about construction, summer events and more.

Following in the footsteps of public figures from Lady Gaga to the Dalai Lama, the city of Lake Forest is activating its previously automated Twitter feed to grow its own following.

City government employees are taking to @LakeForestCA to share information about Lake Forest happenings with residents and others interested in local developments, according to Deputy City Manager Debra Rose.

Most of the messages will be about in-town construction and upcoming events, like concerts, she said.

Lake Forest's Twitter will also be monitored by city staffers for tweets sent to the city's feed, Rose added.

At the moment, the feed has 86 followers.

While it's unlikely Lake Forest will take a page from Sweden's playbook and allow citizens to run the feed, expect to see real-time communication from local government staffers on a regular basis.
