Susan Kang Schroeder, the Orange County district attorney's chief of staff, will try tonight to get the Lake Forest City Council to reverse its plan to dump a law banning registered sex offenders from city parks.
Earlier this month, citing the high cost of defending the measure in court, the council voted to end the ban, which is similar to one the county passed in April 2011.
The council is set to give final approval to the repeal, but Schroeder will attend the council meeting in support of the law.
The meeting is at 7 p.m. in council chambers in City Hall, 25550 Commercentre Drive, Lake Forest.
It would make more sense to ban sex offenders from homes where children live than from parks. Maybe 1% of sex crimes happen in parks. Most happen in homes where children live. This is more grandstanding by the DA's office for political gain. Absolutely deplorable. When are they going to ban convicted drunk drivers from ever driving a car again? Heck, that would make more sense. There is a fairly high recitivism rate for drunk drivers. And they could possibly kill a child in a crosswalk. But the DA wouldn't do that. All the drunks would run him out of office! hah-hah
