District Seeks City OK to Lease Aliso Elementary Campus

The Saddleback Valley Unified School District wants to lease the Lake Forest campus to a private school by fall.

As Aliso Elementary School teachers pack up their belongings, their private school counterparts may be doing just the opposite at the campus in a few months.

The Saddleback Valley Unified School District, , is planning to lease the property to a private K-8 school by this fall.

To do so, it needs the go-ahead from the Lake Forest Planning Commission, which meets tonight at 7 p.m. in .

According to California law, the district has to get the commission to agree that the proposed use of the property, 22882 Loumont Dr. in Lake Forest, is consistent with the city's plans for longterm growth and development.

"Issues of school closure, distribution of students, crossing guards, etc. are not included in the scope of this request," city staffers wrote in a report.

The report notes that the property would be used in a manner "consistent with public schools." Public access to the grass fields, playground and other recreational areas of the property would continue unchanged.
