Grassroots Effort Under Way to Turn Back Auto Centre Decision

A referendum needs 4,000 signatures in a short period of time.

Local residents are attempting to fight back following the Lake Forest City Council's decision Tuesday to change zoning for the Foothill Ranch Auto Centre from commercial to residential, and giving the green light to developers who wish to build residences there.

A protest is scheduled at the Auto Centre on Saturday, 11 a.m., where those who are unhappy with the decision are encouraged to parade their signs for traffic on Portola. That event is to last until 2 p.m. While there, protestors can sign a referendum to force the City to place the item on the ballot.

That's a tall order, as 4,000 signatures are needed within the next few weeks.

City Councilwoman Kathryn McCullough, though, ended the meeting by strongly encouraging people to do what was necessary to turn back the developers.
