Lake Forest's 5-Year Goals Up for Discussion Tonight

At a joint session of the City Council, Planning Commission and Parks and Recreation Commission, the city's five-year plan will be evaluated.

What should Lake Forest's government focus on for the next five years?

That's the question that will be hashed out Tuesday night when the City Council, Parks and Recreation Commission, Planning Commission and city staff members gather for a strategic-planning workshop.

Every two years, city leaders get together to discuss changes and updates to the five-year strategic plan that guides priorities for the City Council and the city staff in the coming years. While no official vote is taken at the workshop, staffers record input there and bring back recommendations, with final adoption of the plan slated for June.

At the last strategic-review workshop, officials produced a plan for 2009 to 2014 that included 21 major construction projects and 10 new operating programs, according to a staff report. Some of the projects are under way or near completion, such as the closure of the Alton Parkway gap between Foothill Ranch and Irvine, the renovation of Concourse Park, the of the and the first phase of traffic-light synchronization around town.

The draft five-year plan that will be discussed Tuesday addresses "strategic issues" for the city, from traffic to public safety. Download its chapters at the city's website.
