Longer Hours, Food Vouchers Now at Senior Program

The Senior Scene Clubhouse at Lake Forest City Hall and Community Center is gearing up for the summer.

Lake Forest's 50-plus hangout, the Senior Scene Clubhouse, is again extending its hours this summer on days of extreme heat, as it began doing in 2008.

The center is open Monday through Thursday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. but is now prepared to remain open through 4 p.m. when the temperature goes higher than 90 degrees, according to city staffers.

For seniors at Senior Scene Clubhouse, the city is now offering a limited number of farmers market vouchers to be used for fruit and vegetables.

Eligibility for the vouchers, which can be picked up at the senior program at the , is based on income and age.

Vouchers, provided by Orange County nonprofit Age Well Senior Services, are worth $2 each and can be used at all participating farmers markets.

The voucher program began in July 2009. That year, the city received 50 vouchers. Last year, 25 were made available. This year, city staffers say they are only expecting 20 vouchers.
