Mosquito Board Rep Sought

Today is the last day to apply to represent Lake Forest on the Orange County Vector Control board of trustees.

If so, you might fit the bill for the position the city of Lake Forest is seeking to fill with a volunteer to serve as the city's representative on the Orange County Vector Control board of trustees.

Applications are due today to the city from interested Lake Forest residents.

The city's representative would hold the seat through the end of a term that expires Dec. 31.

Established in 1947, the Vector Control District is dedicated to controlling rats, mosquitoes, fire ants and flies. The district is also tasked with tracking rats and insects and the diseases they carry, educating the public and identifying public health pests brought to its attention by county residents.

Typical duties of trustees include attending monthly meetings, occasional committee meetings and educational conferences.  

The regular monthly meetings are held at 3 p.m. on the third Thursday of each month at the district's Garden Grove office. Trustees get $100 for for each meeting they attend.

Trustees are also expected to periodically attend City Council meetings to provide updates on the district's activities.

To qualify for the position, applicants must be Lake Forest residents, registered voters and not already seated on one of the city's boards or commissions.

According to city staffers, the City Council is expected to appoint the new trustee at its June 7 meeting.
